A democracy is accurately defined as three wolves and a sheep deciding what’s for dinner. Our founding fathers understood this failing of democracy all too well and chose to protect the minority by using a constitutionally restricted republic as their form of government. With a representative government confined to the dictates of the constitution a vibrant and changing people could, through their choice of representatives influence the flow and direction of their government in the broader strokes without allowing the majority to take advantage of the minority overmuch. If you analyze how the corporations and the 1% have maneuvered to thwart the intent of our fathers you can see that by controlling the parties and taking away the selection process of the people, they have taken control of the representatives of our government and used that control to provide for themselves rather than the people. The argument that ours is not a democracy but a democratically controlled republic restricted by a constitution is entirely accurate and what was intended. That we must take steps to regain the selection process of our representatives is obvious and imperative to the continuation of our republic.
